This was a picture of the pope, given to the people that he visited in Ypres, Belgium in the year 1985. Johannes Paulus II was born as Karol Józef Wojtyła on 18 May 1920. He was a polish Priest, Archbishop and Cardinal and eventually elected as the 264th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church on October 16, 1978. On 2 April 2005 he died in the Vatican city. On May 1, 2011, he was beatified by his successor, Pope Benedict XVI.
